MN Unemployment Rate Up Slightly in August, but Remains at Historic Low

Despite Strong Hiring, Iowa’s Unemployment Rate Increased Slightly in August

Iowa’s unemployment rate increased slightly in August by a tenth of a percent, despite strong hiring that brought the state to within 5,500 jobs of its March 2020 pre-pandemic employment level. City of Fairmont Reaches Preliminary Agreement on Affordable Housing

The city of Fairmont has reached a preliminary agreement to develop more affordable housing units. The agreement involves converting four vacant lots into five, the building a twin home on each lot. USDA Releases Crop Production Estimates for MN & Iowa for September

Minnesota’s corn production is forecast at 1.43 billion bushels, up 3% from last year, according to the latest USDA Crop Production Report.  Based on conditions as of September 1st, yields are expected to average 190.0 bushels per acre, down 3.0 bushels from the August 1st forecast, but up 12.0 bushels from last year.  Corn planted…read more »

Authorities Respond to Hog Barn Fire West of Mapleton Monday Evening

The Mapleton Police Department reported a minor injury on site, but no injuries for those inside a hog barn that caught fire 3 mile west of Mapleton Monday evening. MN & Iowa See Favorable Weather For Fieldwork Last Week

Minnesota had 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending September 11th, according to the USDA.  Most of the state saw higher than normal temperatures and little rain.
