On Thursday, during a routine bridge safety inspection, it was discovered that on of two bridge timber pier beams is crushed and the timber deck is sagging on bridge 22552 at 165th Street, over Center Creek in Verona Township.
This is a critical finding and the bridge is now closed for an indefinite period.
While this is a Verona Township bridge, Faribault County is responsible for safety inspection, recommended repairs and replacement if necessary.
The County has hired a structural engineer to review repair and/or replacement alternatives. Further evaluation is necessary and will be done when the water level allows.
If it is determined that the bridge cannot be repaired and must be replaced, it could be closed for a couple of years.
