The Blue Earth Area School Board received a transportation update from Transportation Director Dan Brod at their meeting on Monday night. Brod reported that the District has eliminated two morning bus routes and 1 van route, he also informed the Board that the District has completed a lot of maintenance on the buses and vans this summer and that 20 buses and 5 vans will be ready for the start of the upcoming school year.
Board Members also heard from the three Social Workers in the District about the negative impact on students dealing with trauma and other incidents in their lives. They reported in the first half of 2019 authorities in Faribault and Martin County investigated 172 cases that affected over 200 children in the two counties.
Superintendent Mandy Fletcher reported to the Board that the new teacher workshop will be held August 21st through the 23rd and a District wide welcome back will be held at the High School at 7:30am on August 27th.
The Board also approved the fall coaches list for the upcoming school year, approved a resolution for hiring election judges for a School District Special Election in November and announced the time and dates for a series of informational meeting on the Operating Levy Referendum that will be on the ballot in November.
The Board also held a 1 hour and 50 minute work session that focused on defining the district’s strategic plan, goal setting for the next three to five years and objectives for the district, it’s student, staff and the communities it serves.
