BEA School Board Approves Budget Cuts For Next School Year

Last night the Blue Earth Area School Board approved just over $425,000 in budget cuts for the 2019-2020 school year, about $82,000 lower than the amount recommended by Interim Superintendent Dr. Jerry Jensen.

The cuts will eliminate four teaching positions, but due to two retirements and two leaves of absence, the only cut will be 4/10ths of one position that will have to be put on unrequested leave.

The reductions will also include 2.4 para-professionals, the elimination of one bus route, cuts to teachers on call and cuts to tech coaches.

The Board will be holding a special meeting next Monday night to further deal with budget reductions.

Board members also tabled a decision on the purchase of a used bus and used van until their meeting on Monday.

The Board also discussed snow days legislation approved by the Legislature, but decided to leave the current daily schedule in place through the end of the year.
