Three to 4 inches of rain in just over an hour caused localized flooding in Faribault County on Sunday. KBEW recorded about 3 inches of rain on Sunday afternoon, and it was raining again Sunday night adding to the totals.
Highway 169 under the railroad overpass was closed for a time as a plugged drain from debris cause water to rise over the road. (See Photo) Also, Leland Parkway from Highway 169 to Main Street has been closed due to rising waters from the Blue Earth River.
Mayor Rick Scholtes said the waste water treatment plant in Blue Earth lost power and was under 30 feet of water, as crews worked to bail out the water and get it back online. Bypass valves were opened to let the water run straight to the Blue Earth River, but due to high river levels, some water was backing up into homes.
Scholtes also cautioned residents to stay away from flooded streets because some manhole covers were blown off. More rain was in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
