Two Minnesota State Patrol Officers have received national recognition for rescuing a man from the Blue Earth River in 2016.
Troopers Zachary Borchardt and Nate Walton were named Officers of the Month but the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Each month since 1996, the Washington D.C. based organization has honored an Officer for the distinguished service.
Borchardt and Walton were honored for their actions on March 3rd, 2016, when they responded to a report of a suicidal, intoxicated driver on Interstate 90, near Wells. The driver fled from the Officers and veered off the road into the river. The Troopers waded into the 20 degree water to find the man in his partially submerged vehicle and pulled him to safety.
The Troopers and other 2018 Officer of the Month Honorees will be invited to an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. next year.
