Marvel Studios(LOS ANGELES) — Marvel Studios has unveiled the first trailer to its sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, the follow-up to the 2015 hit that turned Paul Rudd into an unlikely cinematic superhero.
Returning with Rudd is Michael Douglas, who plays shrinking-tech inventor Hank Pym, and Evangeline Lilly, playing his daughter Hope Van Dyne. In the after credits of Ant-Man, she gets her own super-suit, taking up her missing mother’s mantle as The Wasp.
And boy, does she ever: we glimpse a car chase during which Hope shrinks their vehicle from Matchbox-sized to full, and fisticuffs that show off how her martial arts skills mate with her ability to size-shift — including running on the flat of a thrown knife.
The action also sees a trip back into the subatomic quantum realm, undoubtedly to recover Pym’s missing wife Janet Van Dyne, played for the first time by Michelle Pfeiffer.
Laurence Fishburne also stars, as does Ant-Man scene stealer Michael Pena as Lang’s motor-mouthed pal, Luis. But don’t expect Pena to spill some Ant-Man sequel spoilers. While recently promoting the movie 12 Strong, he joked to told ABC News: “Oh yeah, so basically, what happens is…that you’re gonna have to wait.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp opens July 6 from Marvel Studios, which is owned by Disney, parent company of ABC News.
