One Man Dead and Fairmont Officer Injured

The Fairmont Police Department responded to a report of someone being threatened at around 2:20am on Saturday.  Two Fairmont Police Officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 1200 block of Victoria Street.

Upon arrival the officers found a 23-year-old male who confronted the officers with two knives. During the incident one officer fired his duty weapon and struck the suspect. The male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. One officer was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Fairmont,  and was treated for minor injuries and released.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was requested to conduct the investigation of the incident. Officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

Formal identification of the deceased male will be made by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner following the autopsy. Further information, including the names of the officers, will be released by the BCA once the initial interviews have been completed.
